The Situation: Curley Global IR, LLC (CGIR) was asked to represent NIRI on the XBRL US ESG Working Group. The ESG Working Group was tasked with developing a suggested ESG taxonomy for U.S.-required XBRL reporting, in a manner that would satisfy U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission requirements and be manageable for public companies.
The Result: As an active member of the ESG Working Group, CGIR provided the public company perspective, carefully weighing the burdens of additional reporting with the benefits of transparent ESG disclosure requested by investors and other stakeholders. Over the course of nearly a year as part of a sub-team within the Working Group, CGIR contacted public company colleagues at Etsy to seek partnership in XBRL-tagging an existing SEC filing. In addition to the White Paper published by the entire XBRL US ESG Working Group, the sub-team collaborated with Etsy, Inc. and Moody’s Corporation to XBRL tag each company’s SEC filing as examples of ESG reporting.
